In my youth, I loved to draw.

Mar.04.2008

In this past weeks friend-induced nostalgia, I’ve been thinking a bit about my past and I’ve come to the realization that there are many things that I’ve let trickle out of existence that I used to have an absolute passion for.

Ladrón De la PinturaMy middle school had a pretty kickin’ emphasis on art, with over 40 projects throughout a school-year, very good focus on complex work and advanced techniques (or at least what I considered advanced at the time), and a kickin’ award ceremony at the end of the year.

In the 7th grade I was the only student to receive an award for every single project throughout the year. I wasn’t taking home any gold ribbons, but I was told that I was the most “consistently talented” student in the district. I remember the feeling I got from that, and how much I loved to draw and sketch and sculpt.

I also remember in a mad rush of toolbaggery, completely bailing on all things art the very next year. Granted, my educational history is a bid sordid (especially around that time), and I didn’t have the same opportunities the next year, but I still don’t think I have an adequate excuse as to why I let a real passion and talent become nothing.

I find myself occasionally “venting” a desire to create something. Little side projects here and there that flare up and die, or a tiny little sketch that I laugh at and throw away. I think this needs to stop.

I’ve decided to start working on some of the talents I let slip through my fingers when I was a youth, and see what comes of it. I leave you with a high-minded example of some of the quality you can expect to see from me in the days to come:
