Great article. I don’t think you were harsh at all. I’m also one who has come into this field by way of curious wandering. There is so much information available online- seems like there is always something to learn, or another way to step up your game. The collaborative nature of this industry, in part aided by social media, is really quite compelling. I find that other people are what keep me interested and excited about web design. Web geeks share, and that’s cool. Its not that way in other industries. So thanks for sharing your perspective.
i’d also add books and conferences to the list of resources. That’s a whole different article!

Man I just read through this post again and I was a bit more harsh than I intended to be.

I hope that anyone who reads this knows that I intend to encourage you in the pursuit of web development and design, and not in fact insult you for being new to something.

Josiah, you are one humble/amazing dude. Thanks for compiling such an amazing list of resources. Even though it’s by no means complete, like you said, it’s a great jumping off point for anyone just getting in to the world of web design/development. I like to see the names of Charles Williams and Caleb White mentioned as well, those two guys are solid. And even though I’ve just known you guys for about a year now, I have to say it has been an incredible time getting to know you and even work along side of you. Thanks.
