With this post, I’m hoping that some of you don’t already know about what may be one of the most addicting flash games ever developed. Desktop Tower Defense, from Hand Drawn Games is what flash gaming is all about. You build up your defenses, strategically placing and upgrading weapon towers in preparation for the onslaught of “Creeps” that continually come at you in gradually stronger groups.

The object of the game is to keep the creeps from crossing the board. If you let too many of them through, it becomes obvious that you are worthless on the Creep battlefield, and your term as a weapon tower general is ended. I may have added a bit to that last part, but you get the idea.

Beneath the game you will find some helpful commands and tips to help you stave off your enemies of doom. Read them.

The Goal

Creeps enter from the top and from the left. You must stop them from reaching the other side or you will lose lives. You start with 20 lives, and when they are gone the game is over.

The Pieces

Towers are used to attack creeps and also to block their path. You buy a Tower by clicking on its image and then clicking somewhere on the map. There are 6 different towers to choose from, each with different abilities. Towers can be improved by buying upgrades.

The Money

Gold is earned by killing creeps, especially the boss creeps which come every 7 levels. You spend Gold on buying Towers and upgrading them.

The Levels

Each level, or ‘wave’, contains 20 creeps (10 on easy) and they arrive every 25 or so seconds. They cannot be stopped. Your only defense is to purchase Towers to attack them. Some waves have special abilities like FAST or FLYING. Also, after every 7th wave is a BOSS wave that is especially hard to kill.

More Help

If you have never played a Tower Defense before try the Quick Start Tutorial.

Keys

1-6 selects a Tower & 0 deselects. U upgrades the selected Tower. S sells the selected Tower. Holding down Shift allows you to place multiple Towers one after the other. Space to toggle pause.

Sell Timer

It now takes a certain amount of time to sell a tower, the time goes up the more times you sell towers.

Keep in mind that a highly upgraded tower does a lot more damage than many level 1 towers. Anti-air does what it says on the box, when flying enemies pass your normal towers by and you weep, don’t come running to me. You can earn a higher score by sending waves early, but be careful not to swamp your maze. ‘N’ sends the next level early.

This isn’t technically the title of my post, though I suppose it technically is, at the same time.

I’m confused.

At any rate, those of you that enjoyed ‘Bloons’ are in for a treat, as I’ve decided to slap up the sexy sequel for your enjoyment.

That’s right, 50 more ridiculous level’s of balloon-popping goodness. Remember too that Bloon’s remembers you – any time you leave and come back, as long as you don’t clear your browser cache, you can pick up the game from the same level. That is hot, if I do say so myself (I do).

I may try to put together a wordpress arcade plugin if the time spent here playing these little beasts calls for it.

Gaming goodness after the jump.

Oh, also of note, we got that dart out of the ceiling, and I am no longer in any severe danger of a free brain exam.

Oh well.

We have Nerf™ guns at work. We shoot each other a lot. We often can be heard yelling and laughing as some unsuspecting sap comes around the corner to the greeting of a perfect, whistling, dart-of-doom-to-the-face headshot.

Things have escalated, as they often tend to do ’round these parts, and a number of our darts have been altered with some very interesting modifications.

One modification in particular involves two long wall pins firmly taped to the tip of the dart, points roughly an inch and half off the former face of the projectile, in what can only be called the perfect recipe for a lawsuit.

The first test flight of the aforementioned dart of destruction was directly at my display. It managed to leave two noticeable holes in the dead center of the screen that wouldn’t be smoothed out for anything.

I got a new display. It’s better than my previous one, and as an aside, a lesson you can all learn is that breaking old things means you will immediately get newer better things to replace them with. No matter what.

Moving on, the -second- flight of this maniacally manufactured missile of madness went straight to the ceiling. I fired it, and in a stroke of brilliance decided to aim directly above my chair where it decided to come to rest. I should note here that we have one floor of space in a two story building. It’s not an easy thing to remove something from the ceiling here.

The dart now resides there, above my seat, waiting at comfortable leisure to fall from above and stab me in the brain. If this is my last post, I hope you all remember me well, and not as the moron who decided to strategically position a sharp, stabby weapon of death directly above his head.

In honor of this idiocy, I’ve posted one of the more entertaining flash games out there, called Bloons, for your enjoyment. I found it fitting, as in the game, you play a monkey that throws darts at things, hoping to win the prize, which in my lucky case is a fresh bag of mental disability.
